To provide youth with the highest quality education and team experience through sports participation. Participants are treated with respect and with the opportunity to experience growth in the areas of interacting with others, teamwork, sportsmanship, and skill development. The goal is to create a positive environment that fosters improved self-confidence and self-esteem through experiences in sports activities.
We have implemented mentoring and tutoring programs affordable and available for all interested participants since studies have shown a direct correlation demonstrating that involvement in these types of program result in reducing the potential to become involved in drugs, sex, crime and gang-related behaviors; Increase parent engagement and ownership of school involvement through community engagement events and trainings; To ensure that participants are maintaining good grades by visiting the classrooms and making sure homework is completed and submitted on time.
Sports / Basketball Program
To provide a means of physical activity to youth, which has many health benefits such as strengthening bones, decreasing blood pressure, reducing stress and anxiety, increasing self-esteem and helping with weight management, which is associated with cardiovascular disease such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and Type 2 diabetes; To provide the youth with at least 60 minutes of moderate physical activity at least 4 days a week as required by the Center for Decease Control and in line with the NFL Play 60 Movement
The SOL mentoring programs will provide positive role models to help our youth develop socially and emotionally. Mentors will help kids learn to understand and communicate their feelings, to relate to their peers, and to develop relationships with other adults as they grow. Tutors will increase education awareness and the importance of being educated to build better futures. A potential increase in class participation, homework completion and self-confidence will produce higher grades and test scores.
